Exploring mental health equity for South Asians in Canada

Do you have a perspective on the mental health status of South Asians in Canada? Have you provided mental health and addiction support to South Asian communities in Canada? Or, are you involved in addressing mental health in a different/creative way?

If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, then we want to hear from you! Participate in this short, online survey.

The Collaborative for South Asian Mental Health is a group of Toronto-based researchers that have come together to implement a research strategy to promote better mental health for South Asian communities in Canada. They are committed to conducting research that improves mental health outcomes, enhances program planning, access to and quality of care. They also want to tackle the mental health related stigma and discrimination that exists within and between communities.

As a Collaborative, they know that great work is happening to support South Asian communities, yet this occurs in silos and often does not impact larger mainstream organizations.

The aims of this short, online survey are two-fold. Firstly, the Collaborative wants to understand the key issues, barriers and priorities in this area of work. This data will inform steps required to advance mental health equity for South Asians in Canada. Secondly, they want to identify key people and services working in the area of mental health and addictions with South Asian communities in Canada. This information will help develop a national network that serves as a mechanism to share best practices, research and other important work.

The survey should take no more than 15 minutes. It is intentionally broad and will act as a starting point. Your insights from across various cities and provinces across Canada will help build the ‘bigger picture’ and find consensus in promising practices.

When answering please consider both your individual experiences and broader systemic factors. They will analyze the survey results and compile a report to be disseminated through the network.

The survey will close on Tuesday, May 31, 2016.
